Ross Building Group advises all clients seeking a swimming pool safety inspection to contact their local Council as they have pool inspectors that can conduct the inspection and issue the certificate.

From 1 December 2010, pool safety certificates are required when selling or leasing a property with a pool. The main role of the Pool Safety Inspector is to inspect pools to determine whether or not they comply with pool safety standards.

Maintenance of pool fences and safety barriers is essential to reduce the number of drowning’s and serious immersion injuries of young children in swimming pools in Queensland. Drowning is the leading cause of accidental death for children aged 1 to 4. The average age for childhood drownings in a pool is two years of age.

Whether you are selling or renting out your home and need a pool safety certificate or just want peace of mind in knowing that the barrier of your swimming pool is safe we are able to conduct these inspections in Yeppoon and across the Capricorn Coast, as well as Rockhampton and surrounding areas.

As per our other inspections you can book online or over the phone. We ask that the agreement be read in full. This is for your benefit as it lists some of the non-conformities ourPool Inspector may find.

Once we have received the paperwork we then schedule a day and time of the inspection.

After the inspection, you will be notified if the swimming pool complies or not. For swimming pools that comply a certificate is issued that day via email and then a signed copy is posted in the mail.

If the inspector is not satisfied that the pool complies with the current laws you will receive a detailed report of his findings and detailed instructions of how to rectify the non-compliances. You will also receive a non-compliancy form. From the date of the inspection, 90 days is given to complete the required repairs. You must contact the Inspector to let him know you are ready for a second inspection. If the Inspector is satisfied with the repairs and the pool complies a swimming pool safety certificate is issued.

If however after 85 days we have not heard from you, as licenced Pool Inspectors we have an obligation to submit the non-compliant swimming pool to the local government where the pool is located.

In most cases repairs are fairly minor and can be repaired by non-tradesman like people. If you find that you are unable to do the repairs our Inspector is licenced to carry out such repairs and can provide a written quote.

Pool fences and safety barriers commonly fail because:

  • the gates are not self-closing and self-latching from all points
  • the height of the pool safety barrier is less than 1200 millimetres because ground levels and garden beds have increased or grown over time and have, therefore, reduced the height of the pool barrier
  • the adjoining boundary fences have climbable rails
  • the windows opening into the pool enclosure are able to be opened with more than a 100 millimetre gap
  • there are climbable objects [eg pot plants] near the pool safety barrier
